ALISHA HEALEY SHOCKING CRUELTY IN SUNDERLAND: DOG SUFFERED YEARS OF ABUSE AND NEGLECT

In Sunderland, a disturbing case of animal cruelty has come to light involving Alisha Healey, who resided on Flodden Road, Ford Estate.

Healey was convicted in 2016 for her neglect and mistreatment of her pet dog, Molly, a small Shih Tzu, who endured severe suffering under her care.

According to reports from the RSPCA, the charity first became aware of Molly’s dire condition in July 2015, following a report of a violent incident within Healey’s home.

The organization’s prosecutor, Judith Curry, detailed that Molly had been subjected to a brutal attack, specifically being choked, which was part of a pattern of violence within the household.

On September 30, 2015, an RSPCA inspector responded to a call about a dog in a state of extreme neglect at an address in Sunderland.

Upon arrival, the inspector found Molly in a deplorable condition.

The dog was described as having long, matted fur, with a strong, unpleasant odor emanating from her.

She was covered in numerous small mats of fur across her face and the underside of her belly, which had become so attached to her skin that they caused ulcerations.

The inspector observed a dry, crusty discharge coming from Molly’s eyes, which were cloudy and appeared to impair her vision.

Veterinary examination revealed that Molly was suffering from significant health issues.

She had difficulty seeing and was sniffing the ground to navigate, due to the discharge and the swelling around her eyes.

The constant itching caused her to rub her face and eyes on anything she could find, exacerbating her injuries.

The mats had caused sores and erosion of the skin beneath her eyes, indicating prolonged neglect and suffering.

The vet concluded that Molly had been subjected to unnecessary pain and distress over several weeks.

When questioned by RSPCA inspectors, Healey admitted that she had not taken Molly to a veterinarian for several years.

As a result of her neglect, Molly was voluntarily surrendered by Healey and subsequently rehomed after receiving extensive care and treatment to restore her health.

Healey was sentenced to a fine of £60 and received a five-year ban from keeping animals, a penalty that expired in 2021.

Despite this, the full extent of Molly’s suffering was not fully captured in the initial reports.

A private message from a friend of Molly’s new owner revealed shocking additional details, describing the dog’s long-term injuries and trauma.

The message detailed that Molly had been shot with an airgun, with a pellet still lodged in her stomach near her left rear leg.

She also suffered brain damage from being repeatedly choked unconscious, leading to regular seizures triggered by sudden movements or loud noises.

The friend also mentioned that Molly had been burned, and her condition was far worse than initially reported.

Furthermore, it was suggested that a man, possibly Healey’s partner at the time, was involved in her abuse.

This individual was identified as Ian McCabe, a known criminal with a history of violence and dishonesty.

McCabe, a roofer, pleaded guilty in March 2017 to charges including assault, disorderly conduct, and causing harassment, alarm, or distress, following a series of violent attacks on women who were strangers to him.

His criminal record underscores a pattern of violent behavior, raising questions about the environment in which Molly was kept.

Critics and animal welfare advocates have expressed outrage over the leniency of the punishment handed down to Healey, describing it as a “joke” given the extent of the suffering inflicted on Molly.

The case has sparked calls for stricter penalties and greater accountability for animal cruelty, especially in cases involving prolonged neglect and abuse.

The community in Sunderland continues to mourn the suffering of Molly, a once-loving dog who endured unimaginable cruelty at the hands of her owner and possibly her partner, Ian McCabe.
