WHEELCHAIR-BOUND SEX OFFENDER JAILED FOR DRUGGING AND RAPING YOUNG GIRL
A wheelchair-bound sex offender, Alexander Davidson, aged 72, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for drugging a young girl with Valium (diazepam) so he could sexually assault her.The High Court in Edinburgh heard how Davidson used the drug on the child to facilitate repeated rapes at various locations in East Lothian between October 1987 and October 1992.
The court also disclosed that Davidson assaulted her while she was asleep and warned her to keep the abuse secret, telling her he would get into trouble if she told anyone.
The victim, now aged 48, testified that the abuse had a lifelong impact, describing her lifestyle as chaotic and saying the abuse lasted 'too long.' She initially reported the abuse to police in 1992, but no charges were filed at that time.
Davidson denied all allegations during the trial, maintaining his innocence; however, the jury found him guilty of rape and sexual assault charges earlier this year.
His defense highlighted his health issues, including polio, COPD, and heart problems, but the judge emphasized the seriousness of his crimes, imposing a lengthy sentence.
Davidson was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life and is currently remanded in custody.
The court’s verdict came after a detailed trial where graphic sexual abuse was presented, with jurors spending a week listening to the account of the victim and examining evidence.
Davidson’s crimes span multiple addresses in Prestonpans, Tranent, and Wallyford, revealing a long history of sexually abusing young girls for over 30 years, including another victim he began abusing as early as June 1987 at age eight.
He evaded justice for decades until recent evidence allowed authorities to bring him to trial in 2024.
