MAN JAILED FOR 'SHAMEFUL' ATTACK ON HIS PARTNER IN TRANENT
A MAN who assaulted his terrified partner and threatened to kill her during a shocking attack at the woman’s home has been jailed.Liam Donaldson, 34, smashed up property and slapped the woman during the violent incident at an address in Tranent in May.
He also shouted, swore, demanded to see her mobile phone and made threats to kill her.
Donaldson, c/o HMP Edinburgh, pleaded guilty to two offences when he appeared from custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Thursday.
The court was told that Donaldson and the woman had been in a relationship for about eight months and he had been drinking alcohol at her home on May 3.
Prosecutor Eilidh Grant said that the woman had returned home from work when Donaldson accused her of seeing other men and, after she refused to allow him to see her phone, he became “irate”.
Donaldson was said to have pursued the “fearful” woman through the home, made threats to kill her, along with shouting derogatory remarks and lashing out by striking doors, a fridge and a mirror.
The court was told that Donaldson then pushed the victim onto a sofa and slapped her.
Sheriff Douglas Keir described the attack as “shameful and terrifying”, and noted that Donaldson had a previous criminal record that included offences of domestic offending.
Sheriff Keir jailed Donaldson for 21 months and issued him with a non-harassment order banning any contact with the woman for the next five years.
