GLENROTHES MAN CAUGHT TRYING TO MEET 14-YEAR-OLD AT FIFE CINEMA
A Glenrothes man named Alan Malcolm, aged 26, was caught by vigilantes after he arrived at the Odeon cinema in Dunfermline with the intention of meeting a 14-year-old girl for a sexual encounter.Members of the Maximum Exposure UK group, describing themselves as a 'voluntary online protection team,' waited at the cinema and filmed the incident, which was viewed around 78,000 times online.
Malcolm appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on a Tuesday and was placed on the sex offenders register.
He is scheduled to return for sentencing next month.
The court heard that a decoy account was set up by Kathryn Monk, pretending to be the teenage girl, 'Scarlett.' An online conversation ensued where Malcolm was informed that he was chatting with a 14-year-old.
He asked if she had a boyfriend and later requested pictures, expressing that she was beautiful and suggesting he wanted to date her.
He also claimed to be a virgin and expressed love for her.
Malcolm agreed to meet at the Fife Leisure Park cinema.
When he realized he was being set up, he attempted to run but was stopped by other witnesses.
It was later established that Malcolm needed assistance due to learning difficulties.
He confessed to going to the meeting in October 2019 with the knowledge that the girl was under 16, and to sending messages with sexual content to the decoy 'Scarlett' from October 14 to 19, 2019, to obtain sexual gratification.
The court deferred sentencing until March 29 after calling for a social work report.
