ALAN LAMB OF DERBYSHIRE JAILED FOR SEVEN-AND-A-HALF YEARS FOR CHILD RAPE AND SEXUAL ABUSE
A man from Derbyshire, Alan Lamb, was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison after being convicted of raping a young girl and subjecting her to sexual abuse.The court heard that Lamb, who was a teenager at the time, took the girl to his home where he had full sex with her.
On additional occasions, Lamb coerced the victim into performing other depraved acts on him.
The teenage girl was forced to relive her traumatic experiences during the trial, despite Lamb's denials.
A jury was told that her adolescence was marred by self-harm and a suicide attempt, outcomes attributed to the abuse she endured.
It was only many years later that she gathered the courage to report her ordeal.
Recording his sentence, Recorder Adrian Reynolds emphasized the gravity of Lamb’s crimes, stating, "It is deadly serious the rape of a child of this age.
It had led to substantial psychological harm on her.
You took a young child from the safety of her family and did what you did to her." He added, "Her teenage years, which should have been the happiest of her life, you grossly disfigured by what you did to her," noting her struggles with self-harm and her suicide attempt.
The judge dismissed Lamb's claims of false allegations as "ridiculous." Lamb’s trial took place at the Mercure Hotel Nightingale Court in Nottingham last month, where the victim was compelled to testify about her ordeal.
She recounted how Lamb, significantly older than her, would take her to his house and abuse her sexually.
The jury found Lamb guilty on one count of child rape and two counts of sexual assault.
Lamb, who has no prior convictions, was described by his defense as aware of the lengthy sentence he faced and expressed concern for his ability to cope with prison life.
William Bennett, Lamb’s barrister, stated, "He knows it is going to be an extremely long sentence he is going to receive.
He knows if it is longer than seven years then he will have to serve two-thirds of it in custody.
He has never been to prison before and it will come as a massive shock.
His family are worried whether he will be able to cope with custody.
His life is on tatters, he has children of his own, and his relationship with his partner and children has been effectively wrecked." As a consequence of his conviction, Lamb, of Valley Road, Shirebrook, will be on the sex offender register for life.
