A Mansfield man who engaged in grooming two underage girls and shared videos of sexual acts did not realise he was actually communicating with undercover police officers, a court has been told.

According to prosecutor Katie Attenborough, Aidan Kemp responded with “That’s perfect,” when a 13-year-old girl using a decoy profile indicated her age on the Chatter platform in April last year.

The conversation quickly became sexual in nature, with Kemp inviting her to get into bed and touch him.

The dialogue then shifted to Snapchat, where Kemp, aged 22, sent explicit images of his genitals and a video of him performing a sexual act.

He asked her to call him “daddy,” claimed to be six feet tall with a muscular build, and expressed that her age excited him.

Kemp also claimed he was prepared to visit Peterborough, asserting he was “dead serious” about meeting up, as outlined in the court hearing.

Similarly, conversations with a 12-year-old profile followed an akin pattern, the court was told at Nottingham Crown Court.

During his police interview in October, Kemp admitted to his actions, stating he was “embarrassed and disgusted by his behaviour.” He acknowledged that he knew what he was doing was wrong but explained he was “thinking with something other than his brain.” He also denied having a sexual attraction to children.

Kemp was re-arrested in January after his communications with the 13-year-old were uncovered.

Judge James Sampson sternly told him, “You believed you were communicating with a child.

Your behaviour was disgusting and disgraceful, and if a child had been actually present, it would have been highly damaging and very dangerous.

Only a prison sentence is appropriate.” However, the judge noted Kemp’s lack of prior convictions, his apparent immaturity, and his immediate guilty pleas.

She expressed some sympathy, saying, “I have no doubt you are remorseful and genuinely ashamed,” and warned him that this was a serious matter, stating, “You can count yourself very lucky.

You will not get a second chance.” Kemp, from Castle Street, Mansfield, admitted to two counts of attempted sexual communication with a child and two counts of attempting to cause a child to view sexual images on April 25.

He was sentenced to 14 months in prison, suspended for 21 months, with 30 days of rehabilitation, a £150 fine, and restrictions including a sexual harm prevention order and ten years on the sex offenders register.
