RAPIST JAILED AFTER BEING FOUND GUILTY OF CONTROLLING AND COERCIVE BEHAVIOUR
A man who subjected a woman to a week of controlling, coercive, and violent abuse, including multiple rapes, has been jailed after her courageous testimony in court led to his conviction.Adrian Lee, also known as Adrian Tiene, committed the offences during a seven-day period shortly after meeting the victim.
Within days of their initial encounter, he had moved his belongings into her home and began dictating who she could see.
Lee, aged 29, quickly became possessive demanding to know who she was messaging and subjecting her to verbal and racial abuse.
Approximately 48 hours after they first met, he raped her for the first time.
Over the days that followed, his controlling behaviour escalated.
He told her what she should cook, insisted she watch television with him, and compelled her to visit his family in Worcestershire.
During that visit, he insisted on driving her car, despite not having the legal entitlement to do so.
While still staying at her home in Leicester, Lee used cannabis and snorted cocaine.
On one occasion, his aggression turned physical.
The woman managed to flee and sought refuge at a friend’s house, where she disclosed the abuse she had endured.
Lee, of HMP Lincoln, was arrested, interviewed, and charged.
On 20 September, a jury at Leicester Crown Court found him guilty of the following offences: Three counts of rape of a woman aged 16 or over One count of assault by penetration One count of sexual assault One count of engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship Today (Wednesday, 22 January), at the same court, Lee was sentenced to 22 years’ imprisonment.
He will also be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order upon release, placed under a restraining order, and required to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register.
Detective Sergeant Sarah Jones, the officer in charge of the case, praised the victim’s courage: “First and foremost, I must commend the victim in this case for her bravery in reliving her ordeal in front of a jury.
Her evidence was key in securing Lee’s conviction and I hope today’s outcome provides her with a degree of relief and closure.
“The evidence in the case suggests he sees women as being there for him to take advantage of both for his own sexual gratification and his own personal gain.
“The public should know about his behaviour and his conviction for these crimes.
I hope our communities can also take some reassurance from the fact he’s behind bars.”
