HUDDERSFIELD MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL SEXUAL ASSAULT AND VIOLENCE
A man named Adam Bottomley was sentenced to six and a half years in prison following a frightening sexual assault in Huddersfield. The victim, a woman walking home after a night out with friends, was attempting to find a taxi when she noticed Bottomley approaching her from behind.
He seized her by the throat and waist, then ran with her while laughing and telling her to be quiet.
Initially, she thought it was a joke or that her friends were nearby, but he then led her into an alley, threatened her, and warned that if she made any noise, he would rape her.
When she tried to resist and questioned him about her underwear, Bottomley punched her and lifted her jumper.
The assault was broken up when a passing couple distracted him—one member punching him—giving the woman a chance to escape.
The victim reported that she now suffers from anxiety, paranoia, and panic attacks, and has difficulty trusting others since the incident.
At 26 years old, Bottomley was also convicted of assault causing actual bodily harm, making threats to kill, and attacking a police officer.
At his arrest, he repeatedly attempted to headbutt officers and kicked three of their legs.
Court records also revealed a history of violence, including an attack on his mother in May 2022 where he physically assaulted her, grabbing her by the neck and punching her, with threats to kill and suffocate her, causing minor injuries.
Additionally, Bottomley's past conviction from 2011 involved racially aggravated criminal damage, for which he was given a referral order.
The judge pointed out that, had he not been detained, Bottomley could have perpetrated more serious crimes, resulting in a sentence of six and a half years plus a one-year extended license period after release.
