LUTON MAN WITH SCHIZOPHRENIA SENTENCED FOR MOTHER'S MANSLAUGHTER
A 34-year-old man named Abdur Choudhury, who had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, was involved in a tragic incident in June 2010 where he fatally assaulted his mother, Ramatunnessa Choudhury, aged 70.The assault took place at her residence on Bishopscote Road in Luton.
Court proceedings revealed that Choudhury attacked his mother multiple times in front of young children, carrying out punches and kicks.
Following the incident, she was rushed to hospital but died two days later as a result of multiple organ failure.
At Luton Crown Court, Choudhury admitted to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
The judge ordered that he be detained in a mental health facility indefinitely.
The case was described as tragic by the court, with Judge Richard Foster issuing a Hospital Order under the Mental Health Act along with a Restriction Order, ensuring that Choudhury remains detained at Brockfield House Medium Secure Unit in Wickford, Essex.
The court also extended sympathies to the victim’s family and highlighted the tragic nature of the event, noting Choudhury’s prior convictions for attacking his mother with a knife and assaulting a doctor in 2009.
