BARRY MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL SERIES OF RAPE CRIMES
A violent man named Aaron Gaughan, aged 45, from Barry, committed a series of heinous sexual offenses against a woman. The court heard that Gaughan and his victim had been using crack cocaine before he proceeded to physically and sexually assault her.
He initially pulled her to the ground, pinned her to the floor by her neck, and raped her anally, despite her begging him to stop.
During the trial at Cardiff Crown Court, it was revealed that Gaughan also orally raped the victim and later vaginally raped her, leaving her feeling numb and helpless.
The victim described how the assaults caused her severe emotional and mental trauma, saying she no longer recognizes herself, feels worthless, and has suicidal thoughts.
Despite her pleas for him to stop, Gaughan refused, demonstrating a reckless disregard for her well-being.
He was arrested and faced charges of three counts of rape, which he initially denied.
However, he was found guilty by a jury of all charges, along with other offences.
Gaughan's criminal history includes 40 convictions for 140 offences, including a previous rape in 2001.
The victim provided a personal statement expressing the profound impact of his actions, stating that she felt like a different person, lacked confidence, and suffered mental health deterioration.
Judge Lucy Crowther sentenced Gaughan to 15 years and three months imprisonment, with an extended license period of five years.
He was also ordered to register as a sex offender and was given a lifetime restraining order against the victim.
