NOTTINGHAM MAN JAILED FOR DOMESTIC ASSAULT AND NECK SQUEEZING
A man was jailed for squeezing his partner's neck, saying sorry but assaulting her again within three days.
He admitted assaulting by beating the woman on February 4 and 7 as well as damaging a television, chest of drawers and wooden mask at her home on February 8.
He must pay £250 compensation and was sent to prison for 18 weeks.
Sanjay Jerath, prosecuting, told the court that the couple met around a year ago but began arguing.
Despite this, they started to live together.
On February 4, he was playing some music and she told him to turn it down, prompting him to start shouting.
Mr Jerath said: "He grabbed her by the throat and started to squeeze her windpipe, leaving her struggling to breathe." After leaving the flat, Francis told her: "I am sorry.
I didn't mean to hurt you.
I will change." But on February 7, he again grabbed her neck and said: "I am going to kill you." After an argument in Asda the next day, the woman returned home to find her property had been damaged, said Mr Jerath.
Later the woman told police: "I am terrified of him and want him out of my life." "I don't really want to go to court.
I would be happy if he could be given a court order to leave me alone." Rory Macmillan, mitigating, pointed out that Francis had no criminal offences on his record for violence.
He added: "He knows his behaviour has been completely unacceptable and pleads guilty." "He accepts that the relationship is over." Francis, who has no settled address, is on state benefits.
