STOCKPORT MAN WHO MURDERED NURSE GIVEN LIFE SENTENCE
A 28-year-old man who carried out a savage murder on Stockport nurse Katie Cullen has been handed a life sentence.Imán Saeed Ghaefelipour pleaded guilty to the killing of 34-year-old Katie Cullen, who was working at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, in October 2009.
It was revealed in Manchester Crown Court that Ghaefelipour had stabbed his former partner more than 130 times at her home on Harcourt Street, Stockport.
He received a minimum term of 23 years in prison.
According to Greater Manchester Police, Miss Cullen’s death was discovered after neighbors noticed her absence and saw a light left on in her house.
Checks revealed that Ghaefelipour had shared a six-month relationship with Miss Cullen in 2008 and was struggling to handle their breakup the following year.
Police reports indicated he had been at her North Reddish address on October 20, 2009, possibly to repay money he had taken from her bank account.
Witnesses reported hearing an argument that evening.
The next day, Ghaefelipour sought medical attention for cuts on his hands.
Forensic analysis confirmed that his blood matched samples taken from her home, linking him to the scene.
Following his sentencing, her family described Katie Cullen as 'a very special daughter and sister,' a kind, dedicated nurse in cardiology who was deeply loved.
Detective Senior Investigating Officer Andy Tattersall explained that Ghaefelipour’s visit likely involved settling a debt, but a confrontation occurred leading to violence driven by jealousy and obsession.
The case's compelling evidence ensured that justice was served for Miss Cullen and her loved ones.
