OXFORD POLICE OFFICER SACKED FOR SHARING INTIMATE VIDEOS
John Birch, a police officer stationed in Cowley, Oxford, was discovered to have shared an explicit sex video involving a woman with whom he had an affair.He possessed at least two videos of their intimate encounters on his mobile device and accepted that he could not reasonably have believed the woman consented to having her videos viewed by others.
Birch, who was friends with fellow officer Daniel Gunston, was engaged in a consensual sexual relationship with the woman in February 2024.
He denied intentionally showing at least one of the videos to Gunston, asserting instead that he merely explained the content.
However, the disciplinary panel deemed this explanation 'highly implausible.' Both officers were found guilty of gross misconduct and were dismissed by the authorities following a hearing held last month.
