ZYGMENT MISIEKOWSKI, THE WAKEFIELD PENSIONER, SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES
In a case that has shocked the Wakefield community, 71-year-old Zygmunt Misiekowski has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 14 years after being found guilty of multiple historic sexual offences involving two young victims.The sentencing took place at Leeds Crown Court, where the court heard harrowing details of the abuse committed by Misiekowski, who was formerly residing in Wakefield but was described as having no fixed address at the time of sentencing.
Misiekowski was convicted on seven counts of indecent assault and one charge of procuring a woman to engage in unlawful sexual intercourse.
The offences spanned several years and involved two victims, both of whom were only 12 years old at the time of the abuse.
The court was told that the offending occurred in the Wakefield area, with the victims recounting their experiences during the trial.
The first victim testified that she first encountered Misiekowski in 1985, when she was just 12 years old.
Over a period of seven years, he allegedly groomed her, subjected her to indecent assaults, and ultimately procured her to have sexual intercourse with another man.
The court heard that this grooming and abuse had a profound and lasting impact on her life.
The second victim reported that she was indecently assaulted by Misiekowski sometime between 1991 and 1992.
Her account detailed the distress and trauma caused by his actions during that period.
Judge Tom Bayliss QC described Misiekowski as “a sexual predator of the worst sort,” emphasizing the severity of his crimes and the betrayal of trust involved.
The judge’s comments underscored the gravity of the offences and the need for a substantial custodial sentence to protect the public and serve justice for the victims.
