WAKEFIELD MAN JAILED FOR STALKING EX AND THREATENING HER LIFE
A victim of stalking recounted her fear after her ex-partner, Nabeel Aslam, refused to leave her alone and move on with his life.He persistently appeared at her mother's house, demanding to know her whereabouts and who she was seeing.
Nabeel Aslam, aged 23, who appeared at Kirklees Magistrates' Court via a prison video link, admitted to stalking her between November 10 and 23 of the previous year.
The court heard that they had been in a three-year relationship starting when they were teenagers.
The couple split in 2014, but last year Aslam attempted to contact her again through social media and unwanted visits to her mother's residence.
Prosecutor Samreen Akhtar explained that Aslam was unfamiliar with her address, which prompted him to keep going to her mother's house, asking to speak to her, wanting to know her whereabouts, her place of work, her living situation, and if she was in a relationship.
These incidents alarmed the victim, and police reports indicated further disturbances, including Aslam loitering outside her Wakefield house.
Despite being asked to stay away, he continued to attend her house, knocking and attempting to speak with her, which she refused.
On November 10, he was seen lingering outside her home until her mother returned.
Two days later, he tried again, knocking and asking her to come out, but she refused.
A video footage showed Aslam claiming to police that he had a friend named Michael and was visiting him, though he couldn't recall which address he was at.
He also claimed to have seen his ex-partner drive past but was abusive in his comment towards her.
He told magistrates he wanted to move on and have no contact with her, claiming that the accusations against him were false and that he just wanted her to die.
Despite his apology for any distress caused, the victim expressed her fear in a statement, saying, ‘I don’t know what he’ll do next.
He’s been told multiple times to stay away but he doesn’t listen and nothing seems to affect him.
Nobody has the right to harass me in this way.’ Nabeel Aslam, from Agbrigg Road, Wakefield, was ordered to stay away from her and her family, and an all-options report is to be prepared before his sentencing at Leeds Crown Court later this month.
