JASON AND YVONNE ADDINALL'S HORRIFIC ANIMAL NEGLECT IN YORK REVEALED
In a troubling case of animal neglect that has shocked the residents of York, Jason Michael Addinall, born on October 15, 1970, and his partner Yvonne Addinall, born on May 26, 1972, both living on Hewley Avenue in Tang Hall, were found guilty of failing to properly care for their pet dog, Hendrix, a Lhasa Apso.The neglect took place over a period from January 1 until August 2018, during which time the couple's lack of attention caused their dog’s health to decline significantly.
Hendrix experienced severe health problems including a serious skin ailment, conjunctivitis, and overgrown nails—clear signs of neglect and absence of veterinary treatment.
Despite visible suffering, the Addinalls did not seek any medical help for their pet’s worsening condition.
The RSPCA intervened and rescued Hendrix, providing him with the necessary medical care.
Fortunately, the dog has recovered fully and is now in a safe environment.
During court proceedings, the couple admitted to three charges of animal neglect.
Their legal representative explained that the Addinalls were under considerable personal stress at the time.
Yvonne Addinall had been hospitalized with meningitis and pneumonia from January to March 2018, which reportedly distracted her and contributed to her neglect of Hendrix.
Jason Addinall was also said to have been preoccupied with her health issues, which allegedly led to their failure to care for the dog.
The court heard that both defendants pleaded guilty and accepted responsibility for their actions.
As punishment, Jason Addinall received a fine of £450 plus a £45 surcharge, whereas Yvonne Addinall was fined £200 with a £30 surcharge.
Both were additionally ordered to pay £150 in legal costs to the RSPCA.
The court imposed a three-year ban on both from owning or caring for dogs, which ended in January 2022.
The case has sparked outrage among animal welfare advocates and local residents, who stress the importance of responsible pet ownership and prompt veterinary intervention.
It serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of neglect and highlights the need for vigilance, especially during personal hardships.
