MAN JAILED FOR 14 YEARS FOR NON-RECENT RAPE ON A YOUNG GIRL
Clive Michael Hartley, aged 68 and residing on Troutsdale Avenue in York, was convicted on two counts of rape on 30 March 2026 after a trial that lasted for a week at York Crown Court. On Friday, 1 May 2026, Hartley received a sentence of 14 years in prison during his hearing at York Crown Court.
The charges stemmed from an incident dating back to when the victim was a teenager under 16.
In May 2024, the victim reported to North Yorkshire Police that she had been raped by Hartley decades earlier.
Hartley consistently denied any involvement or wrongdoing.
A portion of the Victim Personal Statement, read out in court by the Prosecutor on behalf of the victim, highlights the profound impact of the abuse: "His (Hartley's) refusal to admit guilt forced me to go through a trial, which added further trauma and made me relive what I experienced.
"The two years between reporting him and it coming to trial very nearly broke me entirely.
What he did to me as a child did not end then.
It has affected every part of my life for decades.
I am still dealing with the consequences today.
He not only stole my childhood but a large chunk of my life ever since."
