MAN JAILED FOR 22 YEARS FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER ON EX-PARTNER
Jake Joe Bamber, aged 35 and of no fixed address, was sentenced on Friday 10 April 2026 to a prison term of 22 years and four months. He will also undergo an extended license period of five years after his release.
The charges stem from an attempted murder of his former partner in York, where he inflicted 22 stab wounds with knives in front of her young children.
Bamber admitted guilt to the charges on 18 February 2026 at Leeds Crown Court.
His plea included convictions for possession of a knife in a public place, controlling and coercive behaviour, and stalking related to the same victim.
On the afternoon of 10 January 2026 at 5:49 pm, emergency services received a 999 call requesting urgent ambulance and police assistance at a residence on Lindley Road, York.
It was reported that a woman had been stabbed multiple times.
Police responded to the scene within nine minutes, finding the woman conscious but severely bleeding from her injuries.
She identified her assailant as her former partner, Jake Bamber, who had already fled.
She explained that he had hidden in a cupboard before emerging and attacking her in front of their two young children.
The investigation uncovered that Bamber had arrived at the victim’s home armed with knives.
He had gained unlawful entry, concealed himself before launching a brutal attack, breaking several knives in the process.
Shockingly, he went to the kitchen afterward to re-arm himself to continue the assault.
The injured woman was transported to hospital in a critical condition, with her life at risk.
Meanwhile, police launched an urgent search for Bamber.
At around 9:35 pm, authorities received a report that a man matching Bamber’s description was found collapsed on Whitley Close, York.
He was covered in blood, unresponsive, and had multiple stab wounds conditions suggestive of self-inflicted injuries.
Paramedics confirmed his injuries as critical and took him to hospital.
He was later identified as Jake Bamber.
On 12 January, once Bamber was medically stable, officers arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder and knife possession.
The following day, he was formally charged with these offenses, as well as controlling and coercive behaviour from July 2023 to November 2025, and stalking from late November 2025 to early January 2026.
Bamber appeared before York Magistrates' Court on 14 January 2026, was remanded into custody, and his case was scheduled to go to crown court.
