YORK MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT AND KNIFE THREATS ON EX-PARTNER
Matthew John Ambler, 36, pleaded guilty to causing his former partner grievous bodily harm, threatening her with a blade, and non-fatal strangulation.
The York court heard that he had brutally beaten her by "throwing her around" and throttling her, and at one point pulled out a knife against her during a long campaign of abuse.
The incident, which began after Ambler smoked six crack-cocaine pipes on August 13 and became deeply paranoid, involved him hurling accusations and attacking her multiple times.
The victim, initially believing him to be a "decent man," warned others that he "will kill," as he was jailed for three years and seven months.
A judge also issued a five-year restraining order banning him from contacting her.
During the court hearing, it was revealed that Ambler, who has no fixed address, accepted he has a temper, which he now aims to control after kicking drugs and alcohol.
The court described the violence as a long-standing and serious campaign of abuse.
