WIQAS MAHMUD AND HUDDERSFIELD GROOMING GANG MEMBERS SENTENCED FOR REPEATED OFFENCES IN WEST YORKSHIRE

A group of five men, all previously convicted for their involvement in a notorious grooming gang operating within Huddersfield, have been found guilty of committing additional serious offences. The men, including Wiqas Mahmud, Abdul Rehman, Mohammed Kammer, Nahman Mohammed, and Mohammed Imran Ibrar, faced trial at Leeds Crown Court where their crimes were thoroughly examined and ultimately proven beyond reasonable doubt.

These individuals were implicated in a disturbing pattern of abuse that targeted a young girl over a period spanning from 2005 to 2010. The abuse began when the victim was just 14 years old, and the crimes included heinous acts such as rape and the supply of illegal drugs. The gravity of their actions was underscored by the fact that they had previously served time in prison for related offences, making their recent convictions a second strike against them.

The sentencing took place at Bradford Crown Court on a Thursday, where the court handed down lengthy prison terms to each of the offenders. The sentences reflect the severity of their crimes and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child sexual exploitation in the region. The convictions are part of a broader investigation known as Operation Tendersea, which has been probing child sexual abuse in Huddersfield and surrounding areas since 2018.

Operation Tendersea has uncovered a disturbing history of abuse dating back to 1995 and continuing until 2013. Over the course of the investigation, more than 500 years of combined prison sentences have been handed down to those found guilty of sexual offences, highlighting the scale and seriousness of the crimes committed.

Among those convicted, Wiqas Mahmud, aged 42 from Huddersfield, received a sentence of six years and three months after being found guilty of a single rape offence. Abdul Rehman, 36, also from Huddersfield, was sentenced to three years and eleven months for two offences involving child sex facilitation and drug supply. Mohammed Kammer, 38, from Huddersfield, received a sentence of seven years and six months after being convicted of three rape offences and one trafficking for sexual exploitation. Nahman Mohammed, aged 37 and from Huddersfield, was sentenced to seven years for two rape offences and trafficking for sexual exploitation. Mohammed Imran Ibrar, 38, also from Huddersfield, was sentenced to five years, with a reduction to three years and six months due to time served, after being convicted of sexual assault and rape.

These convictions mark a significant milestone in the ongoing fight against child sexual abuse in West Yorkshire. Detective Chief Inspector Ian Thornes of West Yorkshire Police emphasized the importance of the operation, describing it as a major investigation into what he termed “truly evil sexual abuse.” He condemned the offenders for their exploitation of vulnerable young girls and highlighted the community’s need for justice and protection.

Since its inception, Operation Tendersea has resulted in the conviction of 42 men, some of whom have faced multiple trials. The police continue to urge anyone affected by similar issues to seek support, with resources available through the BBC Action Line for those seeking help or wishing to report abuse.
