MONTROSE MAN JAILED AND REGISTERED AS SEX OFFENDER FOR PUBLIC HARASSMENT AND URINATION
An intoxicated man from Montrose, William Whyte, aged 49, has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register following a series of alarming behaviors.According to court reports, Whyte verbally harassed a paramedic by making lewd remarks such as 'you've got a nice a**e' while she was treating him after he had fallen in a park.
After making this inappropriate comment, he proceeded to urinate openly in the park, which was busy with children and elderly visitors.
The incident took place on February 7 around 1.40pm on Panmure Street, where emergency services responded to a fall victim: Whyte himself.
He was found sitting on a park bench with cuts on his forehead and nose and was taken into an ambulance for medical attention.
During the treatment, Whyte moved towards the female paramedic, made the sexual comment, and then sat back down shouting again at her, 'You’ve got a nice arse,' and added, 'Are you getting the piggies?' After this, he entered Mid Links and began urinating in public.
Police were called and arrested him before taking him to Montrose Police Station, where he admitted to urinating in the street and directed sexual comments at the paramedic.
His solicitor explained that Whyte lives in supported accommodation in Arbroath and suffers from psychiatric issues complicated by alcohol dependency, noting that he had not been drinking for several days.
The court deferred sentencing for reports and placed Whyte on the Sex Offenders Register for a period to be determined at his next hearing.
The incident has prompted calls from local ambulance unions for a 'zero tolerance' policy to protect emergency workers from harassment and abuse.
