SALMAN HSSAINNI CONVICTED OF SEXUAL ASSAULT IN MONTROSE'S HIGH STREET
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Montrose, Salman Hssainni, a shopkeeper at the Dobry Eastern European store located on Montrose’s bustling High Street, has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.The incident took place on July 20 of the previous year, during a time when Hssainni was working alone in the store, which is a common setup in small local shops but has now become the focus of serious criminal proceedings.
The young girl, whose identity remains protected due to legal restrictions, entered the shop with the intention of purchasing a vape.
According to her testimony, Hssainni’s behavior quickly turned inappropriate.
She recounted that he asked her for a kiss and then proceeded to unzip her top, making unwelcome advances.
She described how he grabbed her face and repeatedly asked to kiss her all over her body, actions that caused her significant distress.
Despite her efforts to leave the store, Hssainni persisted in his inappropriate behavior.
He continued to ask for kisses, teasing her with her change and pulling her forward in a manner that was clearly uncomfortable and inappropriate.
The girl, overwhelmed by fear and panic, managed to run out of the shop.
Later, she and her friends confronted Hssainni, challenging him about his conduct.
During police investigations, it was revealed that the CCTV cameras installed in the store were only intended as a deterrent and were not recording footage at the time of the incident.
This lack of recorded evidence complicated the case, but the victim’s detailed account was deemed credible by the court.
Police also examined her cardigan for DNA evidence but found none, which did not undermine her testimony.
Judge Mark Thorley, presiding over the case, described her account as compelling, credible, and reliable.
After considering all evidence and testimonies, he convicted Hssainni on charges of sexual assault and indecent communication for sexual gratification or humiliation.
The sentencing was deferred until June 26 to allow for background reports to be prepared, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the defendant’s circumstances before final judgment.
