LEWIS FORBES
The incident occurred following a night of drinking, Forfar Sheriff Court was told.
Lewis Forbes, 34, had been out socialising with a friend in Montrose but returned home in an agitated state.
The court heard that upon arriving at the property in Westwood Walk on March 22, he became verbally abusive towards his partner of seven years during a dispute about money.
The woman, who had been sitting on the sofa, got up during the argument.
Forbes then began to push her and grabbed her by the neck, forcing her back onto the sofa.
The police were called, and upon their arrival, Forbes admitted to the assault, stating he “didn’t give a f***.” Forbes, of Flairs Avenue in Arbroath, appeared before Sheriff Pino Di Emidio for sentencing after previously pleading guilty to the offence.
His solicitor told the court that Forbes had lost a well-paying offshore job and is now working as a stonemason in Oxfordshire.
While acknowledging that his client’s comment to police was inappropriate, the solicitor said Forbes hopes to reconcile with his partner.
Noting a previous domestic offence on Forbes’s record, Sheriff Di Emidio imposed an 18-month community payback order, which includes supervision and participation in a behaviour programme.
