WILLIAM MURRAY FROM BARRHEAD CAUGHT WITH CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IMAGES
In October 2014, a disturbing case emerged involving William Murray, a resident of Barrhead, who was found to possess a collection of illicit images depicting children.The revelation came after police executed a raid on his residence, located on Blackbyres Road, in the town of Barrhead, last year.
The operation involved a team of seven officers who descended upon Murray’s home, which he shares with his mother, to conduct a thorough search.
During the investigation, police forensic experts meticulously examined Murray’s computer equipment.
Their analysis uncovered a disturbing cache of indecent images of minors.
The images ranged in severity, with some classified as level three, which indicates a significant degree of explicitness, while others fell into levels one and two, which are considered less extreme.
The most severe classification, level five, was not among the images found, but the presence of level three images was enough to raise serious concerns.
William Murray, aged 34 at the time, appeared before Paisley Sheriff Court last week to face the charges.
He had previously admitted to possessing the indecent images during an earlier hearing.
The court was informed that the images were in his possession between August 1, 2012, and January 10, 2013.
Although he was also charged with the distribution or showing of such images, his plea of not guilty to that particular offence was accepted by the Crown.
Prosecutor Hazel Emmerson provided details of the case, emphasizing the severity of the images found.
Murray’s legal representative, Tony Callahan, explained that his client voluntarily surrendered himself to Barrhead Police Station on January 13 of the previous year.
The defence also highlighted that Murray had been suffering from manic depression and had previously attempted to take his own life, adding context to his mental health struggles.
In light of the case, Sheriff Colin Pettigrew decided to defer sentencing until November 21 to allow for the preparation of comprehensive background reports.
Murray was granted bail, and the court proceedings continue as authorities assess the full extent of his mental health and criminal conduct.
