GREENOCK MAN BREACHES SEX OFFENDER ORDER, CALLS POLICE TO CONFESS
A convicted sex offender named William Hamilton, aged 62, was found to have breached a sexual offences prevention order issued in 2016.The order specifically prohibited him from deleting call logs, internet browsing history, text messages, or any other records without permission.
Hamilton contacted the offender management unit at 11:27 pm on September 11, confessing to police that he had deleted multiple images from his mobile device.
He admitted to deleting no fewer than 47 photos, which he claimed were of a recent trip to look at a bungalow property, and insisted the images were of an innocent nature and not indecent or concerning.
The images were stored in a 'recently deleted' folder on his phone.
This act was a breach of his order, which was set to expire on January 11.
Hamilton’s lawyer explained that he had a good relationship with those managing him and that his concern about the deletions was growing, fearing it could lead to future issues.
The court heard that Hamilton voluntarily called the police because of his concerns and pleaded guilty to violating the order.
Sheriff Joseph Hughes deferred sentencing until next January to allow Hamilton to maintain good behaviour.
