WILLIAM GRAY OF WISBECH SENTENCED TO THREE AND A HALF YEARS FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE IN CAMBRIDGESHIRE
William Gray, 31, of North Brink, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison after a violent incident involving his partner.The court heard that on 17 July, while Gray was at the victim's house, a confrontation erupted when she asked him to leave.
During the altercation, Gray strangled her twice, pushed and hit her, and attempted to hit her with a brick, Cambridge Crown Court was told.
Gray denied charges of intentional strangulation, actual bodily harm, making threats to kill, and two counts of criminal damage, but was ultimately found guilty.
According to information from Cambridgeshire Police, the victim was able to push Gray out of the house and lock the door, but he responded by throwing a brick at the fence and kicking the door.
When she partially opened the door to prevent further damage, Gray pushed her back into the bedroom and tried to strike her with the brick.
He also damaged a mirror during the incident, then left before officers arrived.
The victim sustained minor injuries.
Gray was later arrested on 12 December in Greatford, Lincolnshire.
Detective Sergeant Lee Lombardo commented: “Gray’s disgraceful behaviour left the victim very fearful, but hopefully this sentence will give her some peace of mind.
Tackling domestic abuse is a force priority and we will always help to put perpetrators in jail.” In addition to his prison sentence, Gray was issued a 10-year restraining order to protect the victim from further contact.
