MAN WHO PUNCHED AND STRANGLED HIS PARTNER JAILED
A man responsible for a violent and repulsive assault on his partner has been sentenced to prison.Steven Roweth, aged 51, was sentenced to over two years in jail at Peterborough Crown Court after pleading guilty to multiple charges.
Law enforcement officials expressed their support for the sentence, emphasizing their commitment to addressing domestic abuse cases seriously.
The court revealed that Roweth became furious after the victim received a message from a friend on June 7.
He physically assaulted her by pulling her hair and forcing her to the ground inside their Wisbech residence.
Following this, he punched her in the face and strangled her.
On June 15, while they were watching TV, a neighbor's wave through the window provoked Roweth to hurl insults at the victim.
She left the home, but he pursued her outside, grabbing her arms and delivering several punches, hitting her at least once.
When a neighbor intervened, Roweth argued with her.
Authorities were subsequently called, leading to his arrest.
While on bail on July 27, Roweth contacted the victim and attempted to persuade her to retract her complaint, claiming she had lied to the police.
He pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm, non-fatal strangulation, and witness intimidation.
He was sentenced on Monday to two years and ten months in prison and received a restraining order.
Detective Constable Stephanie Dunlop from Cambridgeshire Police remarked that the victim might find some relief following the sentencing, reaffirming their serious stance on domestic violence and expressing satisfaction that justice had been served.
She also noted the victim's relief upon hearing of Roweth’s guilty plea, hoping she can now move forward with her life.
