WILLIAM FRASER SENTENCED IN CAITHNESS FOR RAPE AND ABDUCTION IN ABERDEEN

A man named William Fraser has been sentenced to a total of thirteen years in prison, including a nine-year term and an additional four-year extended sentence, following his conviction for the brutal rape and abduction of a young Polish woman in Aberdeen. Fraser, whose actions have been described by police as 'ruthless,' committed this heinous crime in October of the previous year, sparking one of the most extensive police investigations in Aberdeen's recent history.

The victim, a 22-year-old woman who had traveled from Poland to Scotland for her studies, provided her testimony from behind protective screens in court. She was visibly distressed, breaking down in tears when shown photographs of her injured face, which bore the scars of the assault. The court proceedings revealed the harrowing details of her ordeal, which left her emotionally and physically traumatized.

According to court records, the attack occurred during the early hours as the woman was walking home from her place of employment in Aberdeen. Fraser, who was later identified as the perpetrator, forcibly dragged her into a narrow alleyway located in the Powis area of the city. There, he subjected her to a violent assault and robbed her of her belongings. The assault then continued in a nearby grassy area, where Fraser raped her. During the attack, he also directed racial abuse towards his victim, adding a further layer of cruelty to his actions.

The woman recounted her feelings of fear and helplessness, stating that she believed she was going to die during the assault. She expressed her initial sense of safety in Aberdeen, describing it as 'the safest place in the world,' which was shattered by Fraser’s violent act.

Following the sentencing, Andy Shanks, the High Court procurator fiscal for the north of Scotland, issued a statement condemning Fraser’s actions. He described the attack as 'despicable' and emphasized the seriousness with which the authorities treat cases of rape and sexual violence. Shanks reaffirmed the commitment of prosecutors to thoroughly investigate and prosecute such crimes, ensuring victims receive justice and support.

Police Scotland also issued a statement welcoming the court’s decision. Det Supt Martin Dunn highlighted the scale of the investigation, noting that it was one of the largest ever conducted by the then Grampian Police. Dunn praised the courage of the victim for coming forward and thanked the community and partner agencies for their support throughout the investigation. He expressed hope that the sentencing would provide some measure of closure for the woman and serve as a warning to others about the consequences of such violent crimes.

William Fraser’s actions have left a lasting impact on the victim and the community. His sentencing marks a significant step in the pursuit of justice for victims of sexual violence and highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and judicial authorities to combat such offenses.
