KANE CAMERON THURSO SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO 32 MONTHS FOR ABUSE OF UNDERAGE GIRLS

A man from Thurso, Kane Cameron, has been sentenced to a significant prison term after admitting to a series of serious sexual offences involving underage girls. The case, which has garnered considerable attention in the local community, highlights the disturbing nature of the crimes committed by Cameron, who is 30 years old and resides on Stainland Drive in Thurso.

Details of the case reveal that Cameron pleaded guilty to six charges related to inappropriate sexual conduct, which included assault, the distribution of indecent images, and the act of making alcohol accessible to a 13-year-old girl. These offences took place over a span of more than three years, from July 1, 2019, to October 2, 2022. Despite initially denying the allegations, Cameron changed his plea to guilty during a court hearing on Tuesday, following a plea-bargaining process. The prosecution, led by fiscal depute David Ballek, accepted not guilty pleas to eight other charges, which were subsequently dismissed.

In a subsequent sentencing hearing held on Monday, Sheriff Gordon Lamont delivered a stern judgment, ordering Cameron to serve a total of 32 months in prison. The sheriff emphasized that there was no viable alternative to custody, given the gravity of the offences. During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Cameron had groomed two 13-year-old girls in turn, engaging in inappropriate sexual communication and touching at a residence in Thurso, different from his current address. The court also heard that Cameron had sent one of the girls indecent images and videos, and he admitted to possessing illegal images of children.

Furthermore, Cameron was found to have provided alcohol to a third girl for consumption in a public place, adding to the severity of his misconduct. The case came to light after the mother of one of the victims expressed her concerns to the police, citing her worries about her daughter’s health and well-being. She also highlighted Cameron’s health difficulties and appealed for the court to consider alternatives to imprisonment, but the sheriff ultimately decided on a custodial sentence.

In addition to the prison term, Cameron was ordered to register as a sex offender and was subject to a non-harassment order, which prohibits him from having any contact with his victims. The court also imposed a five-month custodial sentence for one of the charges, to run concurrently with the main sentence, and he was admonished regarding the alcohol offence. The case underscores the serious nature of the offences committed by Cameron and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to protect vulnerable minors from exploitation and abuse in the Thurso area.
