GILES HUMBERT CAUGHT WITH CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN THURSO

A man identified as Giles Humbert appeared before Wick Sheriff Court to face serious allegations related to the possession of indecent images of children. During the court proceedings, Humbert entered a guilty plea to the charges brought against him. The case stemmed from a police investigation that led to a search of his residence in Thurso, where authorities uncovered a disturbing collection of illicit images.

On December 16 of the previous year, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Humbert’s home located on Smith Place in Thurso. During this operation, they seized several electronic devices, including a laptop, a hard drive, and two USB sticks. These items were subjected to forensic analysis, which revealed the presence of numerous indecent images depicting children aged between four and fifteen. The police confirmed that the illegal material was stored on these devices, which were confiscated as evidence.

The investigation established that the possession of these images occurred over a period spanning from December 17, 2014, to December 16, 2020. The charges against Humbert were formally brought under the provisions of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act of 1982, which criminalizes the possession of such indecent material.

During the court hearing, Sheriff Andrew Berry was informed of the guilty plea and the evidence collected. The case has been adjourned until February 9, when Sheriff Berry will review a background report on Humbert before delivering a sentence. In the meantime, Humbert has been placed on the Sex Offenders' Register, reflecting the seriousness of his offenses. Additionally, the court ordered that the electronic devices involved in the case be forfeited and destroyed, preventing further distribution or access to the illicit images.
