ROCHDALE MAN JAILED FOR VIDEO-RECORDED SEXUAL ASSAULT ON UNCONSCIOUS WOMAN
A man named Wayne McLaughlin has been sentenced to six years behind bars after being found guilty of grave sexual offenses.The court was told that McLaughlin spent an evening with his victim last year, during which both consumed drugs and alcohol.
The victim was considered unable to consent and had no recollection of the events.
Prosecutor Peter Cadwallader explained that she discovered a video on her mobile phone, taken by McLaughlin, capturing him engaging in sexual assault while she was unconscious.
The video was reported to authorities, leading to McLaughlin’s arrest.
He pleaded guilty to charges of sexual assault by penetration and voyeurism, describing the video as 'horrible.' It was also conveyed that the victim had attempted to take her own life following the attack.
During sentencing, Judge Maurice Greene emphasized the violence and brutality of the assault, describing the victim as helpless and profoundly affected by the incident.
McLaughlin was ordered to be on the sex offender register for life.
Detective Constable Russell Clarke condemned the attack, pointing out McLaughlin’s callousness and exploitation, which caused deep trauma.
The judge noted that McLaughlin showed remorse but claimed he was not a sexual predator.
The sentence reflects the severity of his crimes and the judicial effort to safeguard others.
The court commended the victim’s bravery in coming forward and shared hope that the ruling offers her some closure.
