MAN JAILED AFTER BREACHING RESTRAINING ORDER BY CONTACTING EX-PARTNER WEEKS AFTER PRISON RELEASE
A man has been sentenced to prison after repeatedly making contact with his former partner shortly after being released from custody for stalking her.Garion Humphries, aged 32, had previously served a year-long sentence for offenses related to the same woman.
During his hearing at Manchester Crown Court, it was revealed that he resumed communication within days of his release in July 2023, violating a court-issued restraining order.
The relationship between the two lasted approximately one year before ending in February 2020.
Prosecutors stated that between July 9 and July 30, Humphries persistently sent messages to the woman despite legal restrictions against doing so.
This conduct was confirmed as a breach of the court order.
The woman reported feeling overwhelmed by the repeated messages.
She acknowledged that, although she initially responded, she eventually felt distressed and intimidated by Humphries’s continued attempts at contact.
Following his arrest, Humphries attempted to suggest that someone else might have sent the messages.
However, he ultimately admitted to harassment and breaching the restraining order.
The court proceedings also revealed that Humphries had 11 previous convictions for 26 offences, including stalking involving a fear of violence and prior violations of court orders.
He was sentenced to nine months in prison.
Judge Matthew Corbett-Jones emphasized that individuals who intentionally flout court orders should face serious penalties.
Given that Humphries had already spent time on remand, the prison term was deemed effectively served.
A new restraining order was issued, prohibiting Humphries from contacting the woman for a period of ten years.
