PONTEFRACT PAEDOPHILE HUNTER GROUP SHAMES WAYNE LONGFIELD AT LOCAL PUB
In August 2023, a disturbing incident unfolded in Pontefract when a known local resident, Wayne Longfield, was confronted by a vigilant paedophile hunter group in a public setting. The group had been tracking Longfield after discovering his online interactions with a decoy profile that he believed belonged to a 14-year-old girl.
According to reports, Longfield had been engaging in conversations with the fake profile, which was operated by the hunter group to catch potential offenders.
During these exchanges, he sent explicit images of himself in his underwear and persistently requested similar photos from the supposed underage girl.
Despite being informed that the profile belonged to a minor, Longfield continued to pursue the conversation, displaying clear predatory intent.
As part of their sting operation, the group tracked Longfield to his residence on Headlands Road in Pontefract.
Armed with a photograph of him, they knocked on his doors, eventually locating him at an unnamed local pub.
The confrontation was captured live and streamed over the internet, where the group questioned Longfield about his actions.
The scene caused a significant disturbance within the pub, prompting police officers to be called to the scene for crowd control and to ensure Longfield’s safety.
He was subsequently taken into custody and placed in the back of a police vehicle.
Prosecutor Jonathan Sharp provided details of Longfield’s online activities, revealing that in 2021, he had been active on social media platforms, engaging in sexual conversations with adult women and exchanging explicit photographs.
The investigation uncovered that in September of that year, Longfield initiated contact with the fake profile, named ‘Shelley,’ and despite being told she was only 14, he continued to request explicit images.
Evidence showed that he even sent a photo of his erect penis through his underwear and pressed her for more photos of herself.
Following his arrest, Longfield initially claimed ignorance regarding her age, asserting that the images he sent were “just a wind-up.” He later admitted to a charge of attempted sexual communication with a child.
Longfield, who resides on Headlands Road in Pontefract, has no prior criminal convictions.
During the court hearing at Leeds Crown Court, Judge Robin Mairs addressed Longfield’s case, emphasizing the seriousness of his actions.
The judge stated that Longfield had been active on various social media platforms, frequently requesting and sending sexualized images.
Despite the gravity of his conduct, no mitigation was offered by the defense.
Judge Mairs sentenced Longfield to six months in prison, suspended for 24 months, and ordered him to participate in an accredited sexual offender rehabilitation program.
Additionally, he was mandated to complete 55 days of rehabilitation activities, sign the sex offender register for seven years, and adhere to a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) for the same period.
The SHPO restricts his internet usage, prohibits him from deleting his online history, and requires him to make his devices available for police inspection at any time.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of community groups and law enforcement to combat online predatory behavior and protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation.
