PONTEFRACT SEX OFFENDER NATHAN SIMS JAILED AFTER 'FORGETTING' TO TELL POLICE HE WAS STAYING AT HIS GIRLFRIEND'S
A sex offender with a history of multiple convictions has been imprisoned after failing to notify police of his change in residence while staying at his girlfriend’s home.Nathan Sims, 24 years old from Clayton View, Pontefract, received a nine-month sentence for neglecting to meet the requirements of the Sex Offenders' Register.
He had previously been added to the register following offenses involving minors.
At Leeds Crown Court, it was disclosed that Sims was cautioned in 2017 regarding possession of indecent images of a child.
In 2018, he committed further offenses by engaging in sexual activity with someone under 16.
He was then subject to a 12-month community order, along with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and was required to register as a sex offender.
In 2020, Sims admitted to breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order shortly after it was issued by inciting an under-13 girl to perform a sexual act online, believing her to be 14.
He received a 10-month sentence suspended over 22 months, offering him a second chance.
However, in 2021, he broke this order again by failing to inform police about where he was living.
Prosecutor Eddison Flint stated that Sims was residing at a care home designated for individuals with mental health difficulties but often stayed elsewhere, with notable gaps in whereabouts.
After being informed of these absences, police visited Sims, who then stated he was living with his girlfriend but did not want her address included in the legal restrictions.
He was arrested and acknowledged he had not complied with the legal obligation to inform authorities of his change in residence.
Judge Paul Greaney sentenced Sims to nine months in prison, citing the seriousness of his repeated violations and previous criminal record.
He criticized Sims for abusing the court’s trust and highlighted his minimal contact with his ex-partner, which he ranked as a concern.
Professionals described Sims as immature and vulnerable, easily influenced by others.
He is expected to serve part of his sentence in custody and will remain under the Sexual Harm Prevention Order until 2030.
