PENSIONER JAILED FOR HISTORIC SEX CRIMES AGAINST GIRL
A man from Pontefract has been imprisoned after being found guilty of a series of sexual offenses against a girl dating back to the 1970s.
Malcolm Fletcher, 72, of West Close, appeared before Leeds Crown Court today to face charges of three counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault.
He was given a sentence of eight and a half years.
The assaults occurred over a four-year period during the 1970s, when Fletcher was in his 20s, and the girl was between 11 and 15 years old at the time.
DI Kristy Wright of the Wakefield Child Safeguarding Unit said that the victim, who came forward two years prior, showed significant courage in sharing her story.
Fletcher refused to accept responsibility, leading to a trial that added to her trauma.
