PONTYPOOL MAN WAYNE JOBBINS SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES IN CARDIFF
In a serious case that has shocked the community of Pontypool, Wayne Jobbins, a 45-year-old resident of Grove Place, Griffithstown, was brought before Cardiff Crown Court to face multiple charges related to the possession and creation of indecent images of children. The court proceedings revealed the disturbing extent of his offenses, which involved a total of 56 indecent images depicting minors, with some classified as the most severe levels of exploitation.According to prosecutor John Warren, the charges against Jobbins included 16 counts of making indecent images of a child, alongside one count of possessing an indecent image of a child and one count of possessing extreme pornography. The images in question were created or possessed over a period spanning from April 22, 2006, to December 4, 2008, with the extreme pornography being found on September 26 of the previous year.
The court was informed that the images ranged across different severity levels, with five images at level four, five at level three, and a significant 46 at level one. The classification system used by authorities ranks images from level one, which is the least severe, to level five, which is considered the most heinous and damaging.
The investigation was initiated after police executed a search warrant at Jobbins’ residence in May of this year, during which they recovered two computers. During police interviews, Jobbins explained that his personal circumstances had deteriorated, citing a breakup of his relationship and the loss of his employment as contributing factors. He admitted to smoking cannabis and claimed that his viewing of the images was solely under the influence of the drug, asserting that he was not seeking sexual gratification from the material.
Furthermore, Jobbins stated that he believed the extreme pornography he possessed was obtained from a friend and was unaware that possessing such material was illegal. His defense lawyer, Harry Baker, expressed remorse on his behalf, stating, “He is utterly ashamed of what he has done.”
In delivering the sentence, Recorder of Cardiff Nicholas Cooke QC condemned the actions, describing the viewing of such material as wicked and emphasizing the harm inflicted on children. He remarked, “Watching this sort of filth is wicked. Children are suffering in this and you will now suffer shame and humiliation but so you should.”
As part of his punishment, Jobbins was handed a seven-year sexual offences prevention order and was ordered to pay costs amounting to £250. Additionally, he received a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, reflecting the court’s stance on the severity of his offenses and the need for rehabilitation and monitoring.
