MAN WHO BEAT AND IMPRISONED GIRLFRIEND HE WANTED TO BE 'VIRGINAL SEX ROBOT' IS JAILED
A man who severely assaulted his partner and held her captive for a week to conceal her injuries has been sentenced to prison.Christopher Cooksey, aged 33, began abusing his girlfriend after becoming jealous of her past relationships, describing her as his “virginal sex robot.” This abuse started following their meeting at a gym in September 2017.
According to Newport Crown Court, Cooksey’s violent behavior escalated shortly after they began their relationship.
In December, he assaulted her upon discovering a photo on her phone of a man she had shown interest in two years earlier.
During this attack, he punched her repeatedly while she was in bed, causing a black eye and a bruised arm, before forcing her to drink a bottle of rum.
He then detained her for a week to hide her injuries, manipulating her to tell her employers she was absent due to a car accident.
Cooksey also dictated her clothing and makeup choices, stole her phone, and cut her off from her family and friends, leaving her completely dependent on him.
A victim impact statement read out by prosecutor Roger Griffiths revealed that Ms.
Watkins has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and depression because of the abuse.
She described how Cooksey’s words haunt her nightmares and how the violence has damaged her social skills, making her distrustful of others.
She used to be carefree, friendly, and outgoing, but no longer feels that way.
Cooksey faced convictions for two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, common assault, and false imprisonment.
His lawyer, Harry Baker, highlighted that Cooksey had no previous criminal record and admitted that both parties acknowledged the relationship was problematic.
During sentencing, Judge Thomas Crowther QC criticised Cooksey’s obsession with his partner’s past and his fragile ego.
The judge described Cooksey as having a volatile temper and a desire to control Ms.
Watkins, not as a person but as a blank slate or a “sex robot.” The judge condemned Cooksey’s violent assaults, including punching her while she was curled up on the floor.
He also pointed out how Cooksey isolated her and used violence and demeanment to dominate her, causing lasting physical and psychological harm.
The court sentenced Cooksey to six years with an extended period of four years in custody before being eligible for release, along with a 10-year restraining order against Ms.
Watkins.
