FENTON MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT ON PREGNANT EX-PARTNER
Prosecutor Nick Tatlow detailed that Wayne Calcott, aged 52, had a romantic relationship with the victim spanning 13 years, ending roughly a year before the incident. The assault took place in July of the previous year.
At the time, the woman was staying at her new partner's residence on Ulverston Road, Newstead, preparing to leave since her partner was incarcerated.
Calcott arrived at her home after being asked to repair a lock, but instead of helping, he claimed he was there to keep her safe.
Once her friends left, his behavior turned aggressive; he pulled her onto the sofa and then onto the floor, kicked her in the face and head—including kicking a stereo speaker into her face—and strangled her.
The woman, who was pregnant at the time, was so frightened that she was worried about her safety and that of her unborn child.
Calcott later called her via Facetime, telling friends he had 'battered' her, and admitted to strangling her, which caused her to pass out twice.
Her friends returned quickly, witnessing Calcott’s violent actions, and managed to remove him from the scene.
He later returned and shattered the front window of the house.
Court testimony confirmed that her friends saw him dislodge her cochlear implant, causing her deafness.
During the attack, Calcott forcibly kept her face down on the sofa and floor, kicked her in the head and face, and strangled her.
He also threatened to kill her, saying, “Look what you have made me do.” A restraining order was issued, barring him from contacting her for 10 years.
The judge described his violence as extremely serious and highlighted her continued fear.
Calcott admitted to charges of actual bodily harm and criminal damage and has been in custody since July.
His sentencing considered his remorse, lack of prior violent convictions, and his statement that he does not intend to rekindle their relationship.
