MAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES AFTER ONLINE STING

Child sex offender Mihai Craciun, aged 43, was convicted after attempting to carry out sexual acts with a minor he believed was 13 years old, having contacted her via Kik and Snapchat.

He made his intentions clear despite being informed of her age, and he sent explicit images of his genitals to the decoy.

Authorities tracked his online presence to his home in Fenton, where a police search uncovered more than 300 indecent images and over 60 videos depicting children.

Craciun pleaded guilty to two charges related to attempting sexual communication with a minor, trying to encourage a child to view sexual acts, and breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

He was sentenced to 18 months in prison, and he will be subject to lifelong registration on the sex offenders' register alongside a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
