GATESHEAD THUG ATTACKED WIFE AFTER ACCUSING HER OF CHEATING AND THREATENED TO STAB CHILD
A violent offender assaulted his wife after accusing her of infidelity based on messages she sent regarding a new tattoo.Wayne Bell became aggressive towards the woman, with whom he had recently separated, after he checked her phone and discovered messages to a tattoo artist about a new design.
Bell seized the woman, causing her to hit her head on the kitchen bench and fall to the floor.
He then grabbed her by the throat and spat at her.
When her young daughter intervened, telling him to leave her mother alone, he threatened to stab the child.
At the time of the assault, the 42-year-old, residing on The Crescent in Gateshead, was sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court.
The woman explained that she had been in a relationship with Bell for two years and they had been married slightly over a year.
She described Bell as controlling and jealous during their relationship, preventing her from having male friends.
She also reported that he had previously been verbally abusive and had threatened her with violence.
Although they had separated two weeks prior, they continued living together while he saved money to move into his own place.
On November 26, the woman went out drinking with friends and returned home intoxicated in the early hours.
She left her phone on the kitchen counter while she went to the toilet.
When she came back, Bell accused her of cheating.
Prosecutor Laura Peto stated: "He took her phone, which contained messages to a male tattoo artist about a potential design.
He grabbed her, causing her to hit her head on the kitchen bench and fall." "Once she got up, his hand was on her throat, causing her significant distress and making her feel like she was going to pass out.
He also spat at her and called her a lying, cheating b****." When her young daughter told him to leave her mother alone, Bell responded with verbal abuse and threatened her, saying, "Shut up or you will get stabbed." Bell, who has 22 previous convictions, admitted to common assault.
He was sentenced to a two-year community order and was also issued a restraining order.
Defence lawyer Brian Mark stated that Bell is remorseful and that he has health problems.
