A convicted paedophile who stored over a thousand indecent images of children, in addition to creating and distributing such material, has been sentenced to prison.
In August 2025, our Force’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team (POLIT) initiated an inquiry after receiving information suggesting that Stanley Burnett was involved in discussions and sharing child sexual abuse images on social media platforms.
Following the investigation, multiple offences were linked to him, leading to charges against the now 76-year-old.
These charges included 14 counts: six for producing indecent images, two for distributing indecent videos, one for publishing an indecent image, three related to arranging or facilitating sexual acts with a child, another for publishing indecent images, and one for breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention order.
Burnett, who resides on Alwinton Gardens in the Lobley Hill area of Gateshead, admitted guilt to all charges at Newcastle Crown Court in March and was held in custody.
He appeared again at the same court today (Monday) and received a sentence of five years imprisonment.
