2017: THUG JAILED FOR SAMURAI SWORD ATTACK ON GIRLFRIEND
A man who assaulted his partner with a Samurai sword has received a four-year prison sentence.Warren Lever, a businessman, became furious after he and his girlfriend returned home following a visit to the Nelson pub on Chorley Old Road.
Prosecutor Louise Brandon informed Bolton Crown Court that Lever was habitually violent and abusive toward his partner, having previously thrown a cup of tea at her and thrown a dog across a room.
On October 27, 2015, after their visit to the pub, they began arguing.
At Lever’s residence, the 39-year-old man initially grabbed her by the throat and choked her.
After releasing her, he left the room only to return with a Samurai sword.
In front of his five-year-old son, Lever lifted the blade and swung it at her.
The victim reported pulling her legs up to protect herself, resulting in the sword striking her leg.
Her ankle was fractured, and she required seven stitches for the wound.
Despite her injuries, she managed to escape but did not report the attack immediately, as Lever, who resides on Crosby Road, Heaton, persuaded her to stay in the relationship.
However, three months later, Lever assaulted her again after she confronted him about a text message from another woman, dragging her outside by her hair.
She fled after he picked up a sword once more.
As Lever continued to send her threatening messages and make phone calls, she contacted police, leading to his arrest.
Lever admitted to causing grievous bodily harm and harassment.
Sentencing him to four years in prison, Judge Gioserano stated, “It is clear that during your relationship with your partner, you behaved in an appalling manner, frequently resorting to violence.
I completely dismiss any attempt by you to suggest that she was at fault.
She was vulnerable and suffered a serious injury that has resulted in permanent issues.” The judge also ordered the confiscation and destruction of three Samurai swords discovered at Lever’s home and issued a restraining order preventing him from contacting his victim.
