BOLTON MOTHER AND DAUGHTER BANNED AFTER NEGLECTING PONY TO DEATH
Mother and daughter Shantel Tansley and Chloe Hudson were prosecuted by the RSPCA in relation to a bay pony named Jewell, who had to be put down due to their inexcusable neglect.
Jewell was in such a poor condition that a vet had to put her to sleep at the scene.
Jewell was abandoned emaciated in a frozen field, with her pelvic bone protruding and her femur visible through wasted thigh muscle.
The police and vet noted that she was suffering from diarrhoea and was in a state of neglect, with no shelter available against the elements, and her condition did not develop overnight.
Chloe Hudson, who also cited “mental health issues” as a cause of her abandonment of the animals, was present in the case.
The court sentenced Hudson to a 20-week prison sentence, suspended for 24 months, and Tansley to a 16-week prison sentence, also suspended for 24 months.
Both are banned from keeping ponies for five years, until April 2031.
