MAN SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS AFTER SEXUALLY ABUSING A CHILD

A man has been sentenced to prison following convictions for child sexual abuse and the possession of indecent images of children.

Ian Isherwood, residing on Shipton Street in Bolton, appeared before Liverpool Crown Court on Monday, 27 April, where he received a 15-year prison term.

The 43-year-old had previously admitted guilt to creating indecent images of children across categories A, B, and C, possessing a category C image of a child, and assisting in committing an offence.

Additionally, Isherwood was found guilty of engaging in sexual activities with a girl under 13, encouraging a girl under 13 to take part in sexual activity, and engaging in sexual acts in the presence of a child under 13.

These crimes took place in the Warrington area.

Cheshire Police apprehended Isherwood in March 2024 after investigations revealed a PayPal account linked to him had been used to buy indecent images of children.

Authorities seized his electronic devices, uncovering hundreds of such images.

Among them was an image of a girl, who was later identified and safeguarded.

The girl reported that she had been sexually abused by Isherwood when she was approximately eight to ten years old.

Isherwood was formally charged with multiple offences.

In addition to his prison sentence, he must register as a sex offender indefinitely and is under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
