VICKI MCINTOSH SHOCKS FALKIRK WITH SEX OFFENSES INVOLVING TEENAGER
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the Falkirk community, Vicki McIntosh, a 26-year-old social worker, was sentenced to nine months in Cornton Vale prison after admitting to engaging in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy under her care.The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about her actions, which have tarnished her reputation and raised serious concerns about safeguarding within social services.
McIntosh, who was visibly emotional during her sentencing, was also ordered to register as a sex offender for a decade.
The victim's mother expressed her feelings publicly, stating, "I’m glad.
But prison is too good for her.
She should rot in hell for what she did to my boy." Her words reflected the deep pain and anger felt by the family affected by her misconduct.
Vicki McIntosh was employed by Falkirk Social Services, where she was entrusted with the care of vulnerable children from troubled backgrounds.
She initially started as a relief care worker in 1991, working within children’s homes managed by Central Regional Council in the Falkirk area.
Her dedication to her role was evident until her offences came to light in July, leading to her suspension.
She subsequently resigned from her position in August of the same year.
The court heard that the 15-year-old boy was placed in care due to issues at home, which made him vulnerable to exploitation.
The case detailed how, early last year, McIntosh agreed to give the boy £10 to buy alcohol.
She withdrew the money from her bank account and drove him to Airth in her car.
During the journey, the situation took a disturbing turn.
According to the prosecution, McIntosh asked the boy what he most wanted to do at that moment, implying an intention to engage in sexual activity.
The boy expressed a desire for wine and hash, and despite his refusal, McIntosh kissed him, leading to a sexual encounter in her car.
The prosecution clarified that there was no evidence suggesting physical coercion, but the nature of the relationship was deeply inappropriate and exploitative.
The case took another troubling turn in July when the boy was found in a distressed state after an incident in Falkirk town centre.
He had been drinking in a park with a female friend when they encountered McIntosh.
During the confrontation, the girl attacked McIntosh with a bottle, and the boy intervened to help her.
McIntosh sustained injuries, and later, she and the boy drove to Slamannan, where they engaged in sexual activity in a wooded area.
The police launched a search for the boy after he was reported missing by a friend’s mother.
They located him near McIntosh’s home in Bainsford, Falkirk.
The boy was found in a state of significant distress, having locked himself in a toilet, crying and asking to be left alone.
The emotional toll on the young victim was evident, and the case was prosecuted on two charges of shameless indecency.
During the court proceedings, McIntosh’s legal representative, Mr.
Paddy Imray, expressed concern over the media coverage, which he claimed painted her as a seductress.
He highlighted her background, noting that the victim was a tall, fully developed teenager who had previously appeared in court on a serious assault charge, which was later reduced to a breach of the peace.
Mr.
Imray emphasized that the boy had pre-existing problems and argued that the second incident occurred when he was not under McIntosh’s care.
He pleaded with the court to consider her family circumstances, including her responsibilities as a mother to two young children, one of whom has a heart defect.
In sentencing, Sheriff Andrew Murphy emphasized the gravity of the breach of trust involved in the case.
He stated, "As you know yourself, when you are in a position such as you were dealing with adolescents who are suggestible and manipulative, you’ve got to be above reproach in matters both moral and sexual and can’t allow yourself to be involved emotionally with adolescents under your charge." Following the sentencing, Mr.
Imray announced plans to appeal the decision at the High Court.
Falkirk Council responded to the case by stating that lessons had been learned and new measures had been implemented to improve staff supervision and the safety of young people in their care.
The council also expressed regret over the distress caused to the victim and other children involved in the care home.
