VERNON DAVIES JAILED FOR STALKING TEENAGE GIRL AND HER PARENTS
A man named Vernon Davies, aged 25, was sentenced to five months in jail for stalking a teenage girl and her parents in Argyll.Sheriff John Herald expressed his reservations about custody, stating that he did not believe it was the best course of action, but noted that because Davies was of no fixed abode, his hands were tied.
Davies was found guilty following a trial at Oban Sheriff Court on July 5, with sentencing deferred until the following day for a psychiatric report.
During his testimony, Davies claimed he believed he had an "emotional connection" with the girl after speaking to her once in a shop and being near her at a bus stop.
The court heard that Davies engaged in a series of activities which caused fear and alarm between February 17 and June 3, including attending the family’s home and behaving erratically on February 28, and again around March 7, when he requested to take the girl for a walk.
On April 8, he sent letters to both the girl and her father containing sexualized and inappropriate remarks.
On April 22, Davies returned to the house, demanded entry, and refused to leave until police were called.
While living rough in London, Davies sent 13 emails to the girl’s father with obscene, violent, and sexualized content, along with disturbing language and references to the girl.
He also made a chilling phone call on May 17 and sent a letter on May 19 containing disturbing and biblical references.
On June 3, after returning to the area, he arrived at the family’s home garden and refused to leave.
Sheriff Herald commented that Davies needed some form of psychiatric treatment, but his hands were tied by legal constraints.
Davies was sentenced to five months, backdated to his time in custody.
Edward Thornton noted that Davies expressed willingness to engage with mental health services when he is able.
