OBAN MAN JAILED FOR NINE MONTHS AFTER ADMITTING TO HUNDREDS OF INDECENT CHILD IMAGES
Andrew Berry, 58, previously pleaded guilty at Oban Sheriff Court on October 14 after initially being cautioned and charged in August 2024 following a search warrant that seized an Asus computer containing indecent images. The court was told that between July 18 2020, and October 25 2023, Berry downloaded hundreds of indecent images of children, including a child under one being raped and others involving children aged between one and four.
In total, officers recovered 475 Category A images, 404 Category B images, 1,540 Category C images, and three moving images involving naked children aged 13–15.
The images were downloaded at his home and elsewhere.
Berry said he did this because he was lonely during Covid and claimed he was unable to delete some images.
He was sentenced to nine months in prison, reduced from 12 months for his early plea, and is subject to sex offender notification requirements for 10 years.
He will also be on the sex offenders register for 10 years, and his laptop was ordered to be forfeited.
