OBAN MAN REMANDED FOR BREACHING BAIL AND HARASSING EX-PARTNER
Daniel MacKinnon, aged 37 and living on Soroba Road, appeared before Oban Sheriff Court after repeatedly breaching a court order that forbade him from contacting his former partner. He admitted to violating his bail restrictions by making late-night phone calls and visiting her residence, where he was observed banging on her windows during the early hours.
Despite explicit bail conditions prohibiting any form of contact and restricting his access to certain streets associated with her, MacKinnon continued to breach these terms.
On July 16, law enforcement received a voicemail from him at 12:13 am, saying, “Phone me back.
I want to talk to you,” which was identified as his voice.
He made subsequent calls at 3:52 am and 4:13 am from unknown numbers, then arrived at her home and knocked on her front door and windows.
The woman, feeling scared, contacted the police when she saw him.
Officers arrived to find MacKinnon had left the scene and conducted a search for him.
During the court session, the Crown opposed granting him bail again, citing the flagrant breach of court orders and the victim’s fear.
The sheriff inquired whether the contact was consensual, but was told the case was “of an entirely different ilk.” MacKinnon appeared upset and banged his head on the dock during proceedings.
His defense acknowledged the breach, suggesting that initial communication from the victim had led him to believe contact was allowed.
The court, however, rejected that explanation and decided he was unsuitable for bail, remanding him into custody.
He is due for sentencing on September 3, with the court ordering his continued detention pending a social work report and further assessments.
