ABUSER OF WOMAN WHO 'DIDN'T HAVE CHILDHOOD' JAILED
Troy Gibbs, aged 44 and residing without a fixed address, received a sentence of 16 and a half years in prison from Winchester Crown Court on Friday after being convicted of multiple crimes involving two girls under the age of 13.His conviction in December included charges of causing a child to engage in sexual activity, sexual assault, and sexual assault by penetration at a location in west Wiltshire during 2011 to 2013.
During the court hearing, a victim read a statement expressing that she had few friends because she was afraid of being hurt again or having to explain her experiences.
She told the court, "If I was asked to explain my childhood, I would simply say that I didn't have a childhood." She also noted that her abuser had never shown any remorse or acknowledged the pain and suffering he caused.
Detective Sergeant Becki Nash of Wiltshire Police praised the victims for their "immense strength" throughout what she called a "prolonged and deeply distressing case." She emphasized that Gibbs's conduct displayed a complete disregard for the trust placed in him by the victims and their families.
Nash added, "No sentence can ever truly reflect the seriousness of these offences, where the defendant took advantage of young females who trusted and looked up to him." She expressed hope that the victims and their loved ones could now start to rebuild their lives and move forward.
