RAPIST WHO ATTACKED UNCONSCIOUS MAN AND DRAGGED HIM INTO FLAT IN WILTSHIRE JAILED
A man who assaulted an unconscious man during a night in Wiltshire and later took him to a flat to commit rape has been sentenced to six years in prison.Elvis Barney, age 48, pled guilty on Friday 9 June to two counts of rape before being sentenced.
The incident stemmed from a police call in December 2022, made by a distressed man at a telephone kiosk.
Officers responded to find the man, who reported being raped by a stranger after a night out in Warminster.
The victim had briefly interacted with Barney that evening but had no prior acquaintance with him.
As the victim headed home in the early hours, he collapsed and lost consciousness.
Barney woke him, asked for an ambulance, but instead took him into a flat where he raped him twice.
After regaining consciousness, the victim escaped and called police from a nearby phone kiosk.
Barney was quickly identified and apprehended by the police.
Detective Constable Simon Rogers from Wiltshire Police commented on the case, thanking the victim for their bravery and cooperation.
He highlighted that Barney and the victim’s brief encounter earlier that night did not lead to a prior relationship.
Barney exploited the victim’s unconscious state, refusing to call for medical help despite repeated pleas, and falsely claimed to be medically trained.
The assault took place in a flat, with Barney misleading the victim during the initial investigation.
CCTV footage proved Barney’s story about his whereabouts and actions was false, ultimately leading to his guilty plea.
This offence was premeditated, with Barney intentionally misleading the victim when medical aid was needed.
The police underscored the importance of victims coming forward, noting that the victim’s courage was crucial for Barney’s conviction.
